Malaysians abroad have once again helped each other to rush home their ballots for the 15th general election (GE15) today.

VoteMalaysia, a global youth-led initiative to bring back postal votes from Malaysians abroad, has successfully submitted over 35,000 ballots from voters in 25 countries such as the UK, Singapore, Japan, Australia, South Korea, India, and Qatar.

Based on their statement, they collected 35,092 ballots and distributed them to 216 polling stations in time.

This was achievable thanks to 200 volunteers and help from Global Bersih and Global Malaysian Network to convince Malaysians abroad to register as postal voters.

However, VoteMalaysia said the success of the initiative is a sign that the Election Commission failed to implement a better voting system.

They said a better system should be introduced so that postal voters abroad do not need to depend on civil society groups or fly back on their own just to exercise their rights.
