With the 15th General Election (GE15) mere days away, it would appear there is confusion coming out of Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The coalition is heading into the ‘mother of all general elections’ with its two components; Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and PAS.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan was quoted in a speech as saying that the Islamist party was not dismissing the possibility of PN joining hands with Barisan Nasional (BN) if they were not able to form the government alone.

Malaysiakini reported Takiyuddin as saying they would not be working with Pakatan Harapan (PH) but the door to cooperating with BN was not closed.

He however admitted that there had been no discussions but expressed confidence that should the need arise for a cooperation, BN would not turn it down.

This however did not sit well with PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

In a statement today, Muhyiddin said he never gave the mandate to Takiyuddin to discuss with BN on forming a government after GE15.

“The reason PN is contesting in GE15 is to form a government without having to cooperate with BN or PH,” Muhyiddin said.
