If you’re planning on bringing your mobile phone along with you during polling day for the 15th General Election (GE15) this 19 November, take note that you will have to surrender it for a few minutes.

The Election Commission (EC) in its voting guide issued yesterday included a new rule where voters are required to surrender their mobile phones after being given their ballot paper.

As soon as a voter receives their ballot paper from the third voting clerk at the polling station, they would have to place their mobile phones in a box at the officer in charge’s desk.
After casting their vote, they will return to the officer in charge’s desk to collect their mobile phones.

If you feel uncomfortable about surrendering your phone, the best thing to do is not to have it on you when you step into the polling centre to cast your vote.
