Nomination day for the 15th General Election (GE15) is underway across 222 parliamentary constituencies in the country.

While political parties have been announcing their candidates over the past week, it all boils down to today, whether or not their nomination papers are accepted by the Election Commission (EC) and if there are anymore individuals springing surprise nominations.

The nomination kicked off at 9am and eyes are on several hot seats such as Sungai Buloh, Batu, Rembau and Tambun.

10.25am: In Bandar Tun Razak, three candidates have filed their nomination papers; Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail from PKR, Chew Yin Keen from Barisan Nasional and Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar from Bersatu.

Flanked by celebrities…

PKR’s Rodziah Ismail’s candidacy for the Ampang seat, where she is set to face its incumbent, former PKR leader Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, was proposed and seconded by celebrities. Her nomination was proposed by rapper Altimet and supported by actor Hans Isaac, as reported by the New Straits Times.

10am: He may have been dropped by PKR but Tian Chua has filed his papers to contest as an independent candidate in Batu.

9.40am: At this point it is unclear if celebrity Azwan Ali will stand as an independent candidate in Gombak. While he is there at the nomination centre, there has been no word yet if he has filed his papers. Also contesting in Gombak is Azwan’s brother Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
