Barely 24 hours after his name was announced as a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15), Datuk Kazim Elias is backing out from contesting.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made the announcement last night where the preacher was named as a candidate for the Larut parliamentary constituency in Perak.
In a press conference this morning, Perak Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Saarani Mohamad made the announcement that Kazim was pulling out.
Kazim would be replaced by Larut Umno info chief Mohd Shafiq Fhadly Mahmud, Berita Harian reported.
No reason was given on why Kazim decided to back out.
Last night, Perikatan Nasional (PN) announced they would be fielding Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin in Larut.
