Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is expected to be fielded by Pakatan Harapan (PH) as its candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat in next month’s 15th General Election (GE15).

This, after PH chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hinted that Amirudin, who is also PKR vice-president would be sent to wrest the Gombak parliamentary seat from Perikatan Nasional (PN).

While Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali won the seat under the PH banner when he was PKR deputy president in the last general election, he later left PKR to join Bersatu, a party under the PN coalition.

“That is the duty of Amir (Amirudin), who wants to take care of Gombak. We will send Selangor main’s commander to Gombak… but this is not an official announcement… officially will be on Oct 28,” Anwar was quoted as saying by Bernama.

He said this during the Selangor State Mega Harapan Tour in Kuala Selangor, last night.

Anwar also said that Amirudin has expressed his confidence in helping PH secure a win in Gombak.

“I have leaked the question, I discussed it with Amir (Amirudin) and he said ‘I am the commander and I can, insya-Allah, defend it (for PH)’,” said Anwar.

Azmin, together with a host of other PKR leaders jumped ship to Bersatu following the infamous 2020 Sheraton Move. He is expected to defend the Gombak parliamentary seat in the general election slated for 19 November.

The caretaker International Trade and Industry Minister had won the Gombak parliamentary seat for the last three terms, all under PKR.

In a related matter, Bernama also reported that Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu is expected to defend his Kota Raja parliamentary seat.
