Barisan Nasional (BN) can wrest the Kuala Pilah parliamentary constituency from Pakatan Harapan (PH) if UMNO members remain united and support the candidate chosen by the party’s leadership in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

Former Kuala Pilah MP Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said that BN would have won the constituency in GE14 if not for the ‘treacherous act’ of its members.

“All this while I remain positive of BN’s chances of winning the constituency. As long as there’s no act of sabotage by UMNO members, we will always have a great chance of winning back the seat from PH’s hand,” the three-term Kuala Pilah former MP told TRP when contacted today.

He said this when asked about Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar’s chances of winning the seat for BN in the upcoming general election.

“KJ stands a good chance of winning back the seat for BN if he were to be selected as the candidate here.

“UMNO members must accept the decision by our leaders on who they send to contest in Kuala Pilah. Don’t sabotage the party and be discouraged if the candidate chosen is not to your liking.

“UMNO must return back to the old spirit of the party and abide by the decision of our leaders. We must rally behind anybody that is chosen to contest here,” he added.

In the last general election, Hasan lost the seat in a three-cornered fight to Datuk Eddin Syazlee Shith of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) who won the seat with a slim majority of 200 votes. The other candidate was PAS’s Rafiei Mustapha.

Khairy who is also caretaker Health Minister is poised to contest in a parliamentary seat that BN had lost to PH in the last general election after he was asked to give way to UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan to contest the Rembau parliamentary seat in GE15 set to take place 19 November.

The three-term Rembau MP said that he was offered to contest in seats that PH won in the last general election – speculated to be either Kuala Pilah, Tampin or Port Dickson, all in Negeri Sembilan – although he stopped short of naming which seat exactly.
