A standard two schoolgirl finger broke after her classroom ceiling fan fell, hitting her and another four of her classmates last Tuesday.

According to Sinar Harian, apart from a broken finger, she also suffered injuries on her chest.

“Coincidentally, my daughter’s desk was right under the fan, so her injuries were slightly more severe than the others.

“When taken to the hospital for treatment, the doctor informed me that my daughter’s finger bone had been broken and had to be cast,” the schoolgirl’s father, who only wish to be known as Mohd, was quoted as saying.

He added that her daughter, who was traumatised by the incident, had been given a two-week sick leave by the doctor who treated her.

Mohd however vented his frustration with the school’s failure to rush her daughter for treatment despite of the incident, saying that the school instead waited for the parents to come and pick up their child to bring them to the hospital.

“A case like this should be considered an emergency but the school management said that they were following guidelines provided by the Education Department.

“I accept that this was an accident and it was not intentional, I am just upset with the actions of the school which delayed the treatment process for my daughter and other victims,” he explained.

He also added that the already rusted fallen fan was already worn out, and should have been replaced.

He said the use of such dilapidated equipment and facilities should not happen because it involves the safety of students and teachers.

“If this matter does not get the attention it deserves, it is not impossible that the same incident could happen again,” he said.
