Malaysian Model Slams Irresponsible Groups For Using Her Video For Political Campaigns

Recently, one of Gayathri Moorthi’s videos was doctored to include political messages and logos without her knowledge.

On Monday, 18 October, a viral video showed a woman in a saree dancing to a song with the MIC logo at the top of the clip.

The video was also accompanied by two other logos asking people to vote for Barisan Nasional.

MIC president SA Vigneswaran said the woman in the video, who was deemed sexy by netizens, is not an MIC member and the party would be foolish to carry out an election campaign in such a manner.

It is an insult to our intelligence if our members resort to this. Obviously, this is an attempt by our enemies to smear us with this TikTok clip. I don’t wish to name anyone blindly but to resort to this cheap tactic only shows it could be our political rivals.

It was an edited clip

According to Free Malaysia Today, the viral clip appears to be edited from another netizen’s video.

The original video without political logos and messages belonged to a Malaysian model and actress named Gayathri Moorthi (@gayathrimoorthioficial4).

She said it was unbecoming of the unknown parties for using the video clip she made to celebrate Ugadi (Telegu new year) festival a few months ago into a political campaign for GE15.

Gayathri said the perpetrators have tarnished her reputation and dragged her into politics unnecessarily.

I don’t belong to any political party and don’t want to be a member of one. I am a professional model and actress and no one should doctor my TikTok video clips for nefarious activities such as this. I also don’t find the clip to be sensual as claimed.

Her professional credentials include winning the best-supporting actress category in the 2019 Astro Telemovie Awards and being the first Malaysian model to appear in an advertisement in India.
