PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar had shut down any rumours that the party was holding a secret discussion with UMNO to form a pact for the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

According to the Permatang Pauh MP, the Opposition front was against the idea of holding a snap poll this year due to the impending poor weather.

“The answer’s obvious: we as MPs did not want Parliament to be dissolved, as it would force Malaysians to face potentially dangerous natural disasters and the monsoon season.

“We do not want to use such political manoeuvres, and these are just rumours associated with the upcoming GE15,” Nurul Izzah was quoted as saying by Bernama.

She said this at the sideline of the Penang PKR’s Prihatin Deepavali roadshow yesterday.

On 14 October, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan claimed that PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was holding secret meetings with his counterpart in UMNO, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Wan Saiful said that he was informed of the meeting by his Pakatan Harapan’s connection

“It is said that the agenda of the meeting is to hold a pact between UMNO and PKR to minimize clashes in GE15, and to work towards the formation of a joint government. It was understood that the meetings were carried out without the blessing of UMNO or the PH leadership, but many discussion sessions had taken place,” Wan Saiful wrote on his Facebook.
