Barisan Nasional (BN) are not deterred by Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaigns to make Perak part of the coalition’s “corridor” post 15th general election (GE15).

According to caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, BN has also identified Perak as a “frontline state” in preparation for the upcoming election.

“Not a problem for BN because we have also been making Perak our ‘frontline state’…it’s not an issue for PH to make Perak its target.

“God willing, we are confident that we can win Perak this time around,” the Perak BN’s state chief was quoted as saying by New Straits Times.

Saarani said that BN has been making preparations since losing Perak and the federal governments to PH in GE14, stating that the coalition is now ready to face the poll.

Last Friday, Perak DAP chairman Ngar Kor Ming said that PH will make Perak the frontline state in facing GE15 in order to form “PH Corridor” in Peninsula Malaysia.

“The PH presidential council has already set Perak as the frontline state for the upcoming election.

“We have won Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan, and are short of one – Perak.

“If we win Perak in GE15, all the states from the north to south will become a ‘Harapan corridor’. And from there on, we can expand to Johor and Pahang,” Nga was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini.

Perak state legislative assembly was dissolved today after Perak Sultan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, gave his consent.

This makes it three out of three BN’s controlled state that has dissolved their legislative assembly to pave way for a simultaneous election together with the Parliament.

Perlis was the first state to dissolve its legislative assembly followed by Pahang.

PH which ruled Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, and PAS who formed the government in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah, however, are adamant that they will not dissolve the state legislative assembly together with the Parliament.

Meanwhile, Melaka, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak have already held their state polls between 2020 and 2022.

Perak offers 59 state seats, 25 of which are currently being held by BN, 23 by PH, six by Perikatan Nasional (PN) and one by an independent assemblyman.

Although PH won the state twice in 2008 and 2018, the coalition was forced out of the state administration following defection from its assemblymen.

It is also worth noting that Perak has yet to table and pass the Anti-Hopping Law in the legislative assembly.
