Malaysians have complained several times about the broken escalators and lifts at various light rail transit (LRT), mass rapid transit (MRT) and monorail stations.
Hopefully, the latest announcement by Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd is a sign of good things to come for all commuters.
According to Bernama, Rapid Rail has ordered spare parts from the original manufacturer (OEM) in Shanghai, China.
This means repairs would be carried out in stages soon. #Patience
The first batch is expected to arrive this month, the second in mid-November and the third two weeks later.
Among the parts ordered are 87 handrail units and 37 escalator step chain units.
Rapid Rail added that the status of the repair and installation works will be updated via mass media and its social media channels.
As of 14 October, 22 of the 362 elevator units were not functioning, while 49 out of 707 escalators were out of order.
As a long-term measure, Rapid Rail implemented a “condition-based maintenance programme.”
In this programme, regular maintenance will only be performed when there are indicators of decreasing performance of upcoming failures.
In addition, Rapid Rail had ordered 192 handrail units and 22 step chain units that are required at all routes.
