The Selangor Forestry Department has issued a notice to bar any hiking activities at permanent forest reserves in the state due to the upcoming monsoon season.
“Please be informed that all hiking trails and recreational activities in the Selangor permanent reserve forest are not permitted and will be closed to public visitors from 1 November 2022 to 31 January 2023,” the department said in a statement uploaded onto Facebook.
The department added that the closure was a precautionary measure to prevent untoward incidents from occurring due to the monsoon season.
The closure was a routine procedure which was done every year during the monsoon season when heavy rains were expected to fall during this time of the year.
There are 10 eco-forest in Selangor that are popular among hikers namely; Air Terjun Gabai, Sungai Chongkak, Sungai Tua, Taman Rimba Templer, Gunung Nuang, Sungai Sendat, Taman Rimba Ampang, Kanching, Sungai Tekala and Taman Rimba Komanwel.
