The Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway, also known as the DASH highway, is officially opened today (13 October) after six years.

Unlike the SUKE highway, the DASH highway is open in its entirety for public use. Once opened, the highway is expected to have an average of 50,000 daily road users.

According to Malay Mail, the highway costs RM4.2 billion and will serve as a link between the eastern and western townships in Klang Valley.

DASH highway will connect several highway networks such as the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), Penchala Link, and SPRINT Expressway.

According to paultan.org, the DASH highway interchanges include:

  • Puncak Perdana

  • RRIM (Kwasa Damansara)
  • Surian

The highway is expected to cut the 90 minutes commute from Puncak Perdana to Penchala to 30 minutes.

In addition, the highway is hoped to relieve the daily road congestion in areas such as Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari by 39%, Jalan Sungai Buloh by 33% and Persiaran Surian by 43%.

There will be three toll plazas on the new highway: Denai Alam, RRIM (Kwasa Damansara) and Kota Damansara, with two rest stops at Denai Alam.

What are the other features of DASH?

The highway is equipped with 37 CCTVs, 18 emergency phones, 30 vehicle incident detection systems (VIDS), 10 variable message signs (VMS) along the alignment and 2,441 light-emitting diode (LED) street lights.

Each lane on DASH is 3.5 metres wide while the emergency lane measures 3 metres wide.

The toll plaza operation buildings on DASH highway also sport eco-friendly features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting and green turf roofs.

The concession period for DASH will last for 55 years from 25 December 2014 to 24 December 2069.

DASH is the second highway project opened by Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings (Prolintas).
