While nothing is set in stone yet, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that he prepared to contest a parliamentary seat held by PKR and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) ‘traitors’ during the 15th General Election (GE15).

Although he did not specifically name which constituency to contest, the PKR president said the seat he would contest must provide an ‘added advantage’ to the opposition front.

“To be honest, I’ve yet to make my choice which seat to contest but I’m considering a seat held by a traitor (to the party and coalition)…for example, if the party decided for me to run in the Gombak parliamentary seat, I will contest there,” Anwar was quoted by Berita Harian.

Anwar said that he is considering contesting in seats that the coalition’s traitors held in order to send a message to these party hoppers.

“There’s no qualm in contesting in UMNO’s stronghold but I have to choose a seat held by a traitor. The message is that betrayal in politics (is unacceptable),” he added.

Anwar said this during a question and answer session at the ‘Sembang Kencang KLS @ Anwar Ibrahim’ programme held by the Kelab Wartawan Kuala Lumpur & Selangor last night.

The Gombak seat is held by Anwar’s former deputy Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who together with a host of PKR reps, jumped to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) following the infamous Sheraton Move which ultimately ended PH rule in the country.

Apart from Azmin, the other PKR reps who left the party for Bersatu include; Zuraida Kamaruddin (Ampang), Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah (Indera Mahkota), Datuk Kamaruddin Jaffar (Bandar Tun Razak), Datuk Mansor Othman (Nibong Tebal), Datuk Rashid Hasnon (Batu Pahat), Datuk Seri Dr Santhara Kumar (Segamat), Ali Biju (Saratok), Willie Mongin (Puncak Borneo) and Jonathan Yasin (Ranau).

Anwar however had previously denied that he will be contesting the Ampang seat which was held by Zuraida, who is also the plantation industries and commodities minister.

Zuraida, who together with Azmin, left PKR for Bersatu, subsequently quit the party and joined Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

The former PKR veep is now PBM president-designate. The party has requested to join the Barisan Nasional coalition.
