Malaysian Life Expectancy Cut Short By A Year To 73.4 Years Due To Covid-19
The pandemic has largely contributed to the drop, according to the Statistics Department.

Malaysian life expectancy was cut short to 73.4 years compared to 74.4 years as recorded 10 years back which was largely contributed by the death tolls recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic.
As it stands, the decrease in life expectancy was recorded in both genders, including non-citizens living in the country, as per the latest finding by the Statistic Department.
In 2022, on average, a Malaysian man is expected to live up to 70.8 years while women are expected to live to 75.6 years.
For non-citizen males living in the country, their life expectancy was recorded at 76.4 years while the woman’s average is recorded at 77.8 years.
This year statistics find that male at the age of 15 years is expected to live for another 56.9 years and female for another 61.3 years
Meanwhile, a male at the age of 60 years in 2022 is expected to live another 17.5 years and female another 20.1 years
Among the races, the Chinese ethnic group has the highest life expectancy at birth with men at 73.5 years and women, at 79.4 years.
This was followed by the non-Malay Bumiputera, with the males at 71 years and the women at 74.9 years.
The Malay ethnic group’s life expectancy at birth stands at 70.4 years (male) and 74.9 years (female)
While for the Indians, the average life expectancy at birth for the male stands at 66.3 years while the female stands at 73.2 years.
The statistic released by the department also listed Malaysia fifth among the Asean countries for life expectancy behind Singapore, Thailand, Brunei and Vietnam.
