Two policemen from the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters’ D4 (Operation, Intelligence and Records) Division were injured after a parang-wielding drug addict attacked them in an incident at a house in Kampung Sungai Kandis, Section 36, Shah Alam yesterday.

According to Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, both Inspector Mohd Zulhusni Hasani, 30, and Lance Corporal Mohammad Ridzuan Marsudi, 31, were part of a squad that was dispatched to the scene following a report that the 47-year-old jobless man had crashed his Nissan Navara against his brother’s Honda Accord following an argument between the two brothers.

The suspect had also thrown flower pots onto his brother’s car and chased the 53-year-old retired teacher with a parang.

The police personnel arrived at his home at about 3.45pm but the suspect had run to his home, located right next to his brother’s house, and locked the door.

“However, they managed to get into the house and the suspect retaliated by slashing Ridzuan with a parang causing him to fire a shot in self-defence. But the shot went into the air as he was struggling with the suspect who continued to attack him and injured his left wrist,” Mohd Iqbal was quoted as saying by Kosmo.

He added that three of the lance corporal’s left-hand fingers could not be moved due to the injury.

Meanwhile, Inspector Mohd. Zulhusni was slashed in his right hand when he and the other police officers tried to apprehend the suspect.

Both Mohammad Ridzuan and Mohd. Zulhusni was rushed to the Shah Alam Hospital for treatment but the former was later transferred to the Selayang Hospital to undergo an operation to save his hand. The two policemen are now in stable condition.

“The urine test result found the suspect is positive for Methamphetamine, Amphetamine and Tetrahydro Cannabinol Hydrocarboxy Lic Acid (THC) and has a previous criminal record.

“The suspect is now remanded for three days until this Thursday and the case is being investigated under Section 307/326 of the Penal Code,” said Mohd Iqbal.
