The Health Ministry is bound to the ethics of patient confidentiality under Medical Act 1971 (Amendment 2012) and cannot disclose the condition of incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak to the public.

According to the ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, any relevant information on Najib’s health can be presented to the court once a court order has been issued

“Clinical investigations, treatment and monitoring on Najib’s health have been done by the Health Ministry with the subsequent report to be submitted to the court (if ordered by the court),” Noor Hisham said in a Facebook posting.

He also said that in accordance with Section 37 of the Prisons Act, and upon the High Court’s order on 12 September, Najib was referred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for treatment following complaints of health issues.

He was subsequently referred to the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH) and had been there since last Monday.

According to the Prison Department,  Najib, who is serving a 12-year jail sentence for misappropriating RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, will be sent back to Kajang Prison once the specialists at CRH or HKL give him a medical clearance.
