Incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak is receiving treatment at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH) after being referred to by the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) on 19 September.
According to the Prison Department, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered Najib to be sent to the hospital on 12 September for medical attention after his health deteriorated.
“In accordance with Section 37 of the Prisons Act and the provisions under it, as well as the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners (Mandela Rules), the Prison Department had sent Najib to HKL to receive treatment and observation from the specialist,” the department said in a statement.
“On 19 September, the HKL referred Najib to CRH for observation and further treatment until now,” it added.
The department said that Najib, who is serving a 12-year jail sentence for misappropriating RM42 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, will be sent back to Kajang Prison once the specialists at CRH or HKL give him a medical clearance.
