The first accident at the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway (SUKE) was recorded on Sunday, three days after the highway was opened to the public.

In the incident at about 2.45pm yesterday, a motorcyclist crashed into a Myvi that was parked in the emergency lane nearby the Bukit Teratai toll plaza, heading towards Kuala Lumpur.

According to Ampang Jaya district police chief Farouk Eshak, the driver had parked the car in the emergency lane to enjoy the scenic view along the 16.6km stretch of the first phase of the highway.

“A motorcyclist then crashed into the parked car from behind. The accident caused both the car and the motorcycle to be damaged,” Farouk said in a statement.

He said that the motorcyclist, who suffers injuries on his leg, was rushed to Ampang Hospital for treatment.

He added that the incident is being investigated for obstruction of traffic leading to an accident.

Those found guilty of committing such an offence can be compounded for up to RM300.

The first phase of the SUKE highway was opened to the public beginning last Friday and road users are enjoying a one-month toll-free drive on it.
