Bukit Aman is investigating UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for allegedly insulting and slandering the Malaysian judiciary system during last weekend’s UMNO special briefing at the World Trade Centre (WTC).

According to Berita Harian, 12 police reports were lodged against Zahid across the nation with regard to his speech last Saturday.

Royal Malaysia Police corporate communications chief Skandaguru Anandan said that the investigations would be handled by the Classified Crimes Investigation Unit (D5), under Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigations Department.

“The investigation is being conducted in accordance with Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” Skandaguru was quoted as saying, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

In his speech in front of UMNO grassroots members last Saturday, Zahid questioned whether incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak was afforded a fair trial at the Federal Court which last week affirmed the decision to uphold his conviction and sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

Najib is now serving his 12-year jail term at the Kajang Prison.

It was learnt that several political parties from the Opposition bloc had lodged police reports against Zahid yesterday, including representatives from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

According to reports, several other UMNO leaders who gave similar speeches during the party’s special Saturday briefing were also named in the police reports.

Among others, UMNO had reiterated the party’s stand for an early general election to be held soon while UMNO leader Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said also touched on the position of the attorney-general during her speech last Saturday.
