Two auxiliary policemen were arrested yesterday after they allegedly extorted a couple who committed close proximity at a shopping mall in Johor Baru, Berita Harian reported.

According to Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat, the suspects, aged 25 and 32, were picked up by the police at 9pm last night following a report from the 25-year-old victim.

According to the report, the victims were committing close proximity inside a car at the back of the mall at 10pm on Friday before they were approached by the suspects who had asked for RM500 to let the matter go.

“Since the victim did not have enough cash on them, the two individuals asked them to hand them over an ATM card including the pin number so that they can withdraw the cash themselves at the ATM.

“They were let go after that but the victim then received an SMS informing him that RM1,000 had been withdrawn from his account,” Raub was quoted as saying.

Raub said that the suspects are being detained for four days and being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, or whipping or any two of such punishments.

He also urged those with information on the incident to contact South Johor Bahru District Police Headquarters at 07-218 2323 or the investigating officer S Sivakumaran at 019-512 7410 to assist in the investigation.
