A leader of an Indian-based NGO was slashed in the neck by a “stalker” on Wednesday, 27 July.

Persatuan Harapan India Malaysia chairman M Mani Maran was just about to leave a printing shop around 1.40pm in Kajang when the assailant approached him and asked him about a certain individual.

When Mani refused to entertain the man and walked away, the assailant took out a blade and slashed his neck before fleeing.

According to Free Malaysia Today, Mani received 16 stitches at the hospital following the attack.

I have no idea how he knew where I was. I believe he stalked me for the past few days. I was actually going to the MACC office again to lodge a report against a politician who had just purchased a sports car.

Mani said the male assailant, believed to be in his late 30s, had previously approached him outside the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya after he lodged a report against a Cabinet member on 22 July.

The Cabinet member is said to have been involved in false claims and misappropriation of funds from the PenjanaKerjaya hiring incentive programme.

The assailant was part of a small group protesting against Mani and his group for lodging the report. He briefly spoke to Mani before Mani left.
