Penang police are investigating the claims that a special education teacher abused a 7-year-old autistic child until the child’s ears turned blue-black in colour.

A Facebook user Mona Din posted pictures of the child’s badly bruised ears. The bruises were supposedly injuries sustained by the child after the teacher twisted both ears in a school in Permatang Pauh.

According to Free Malaysia Today, the child’s mother lodged a police report on the same day (19 July) around 9.30am.

The child was sent to Bukit Mertajam Hospital for treatment. NST reported that the hospital confirmed that it was an abuse case.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Based on the post on the Autisme Malaysia Facebook page, the child’s mother claimed that it was the second time the teacher treated her child badly.

The teacher allegedly accused the child of being active and behaving aggressively in class and twisted the child’s ears as punishment.

The teacher also allegedly blamed understaffing at the school for their abusive method to control the child.

The school blamed the parents

To make matters worse, the school authorities allegedly belittled and blamed the parents for not bringing up their child properly.

The school authorities allegedly told the parents they were wasting their time by sending their child to school.

The parents said they never received any complaints from teachers about their child being aggressive and were told their child was doing well in school.

The family is upset. They were told during a meeting with the school that it was the child’s fault that the teacher took such action. And the school even belittled the family for not monitoring the child’s development. Really? Can the school give such answers? This is an autistic child.

Netizens were horrified to see the injuries sustained by the child and urged the parents to lodge a police report.

A few of them pointed out that the teacher wasn’t suited to be a special education teacher because the teacher lacked patience.

Another netizen also said that there was no way the teacher’s behaviour could be excused and blamed on understaffing in school.
