Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong Choo Kiong has been guilty of raping his Indonesian maid three years ago in the High Court today.

According to NST, judge Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed made the decision after ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt against the accused.

Yong is sentenced to 13 years in prison and two strokes of the cane.

He allegedly raped his 23-year-old domestic helper in a room on the top floor of his house in Meru Desa Park between 8.15pm and 9.15pm on 7 July 2019.

Yong, a Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) treasurer-general and a former state exco, pleaded not guilty on 23 August 2019.

He was tried under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years, and possible whipping, upon conviction.

He was then the state housing, local government, public transport, non-Islamic affairs and new villages committee chairman.

In 2020, the Federal Court allowed Yong’s appeal to transfer the case from the Sessions Court to the High Court and he was ordered to enter his defence on 7 December 2021.
