The police should stop intimidating the people for merely voicing their opinion, says Parti Aspirasi Sains Malaysia (Sains).

This came after one of its central executive member Noor Jehan Abu Bakar, who is also the Head of Pahang Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) was called up by the men in blue for questioning after she allegedly insulted Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in the now-deleted Twitter thread.

“Sains believes that Puan Jehan, who is also Sains central executive member, did not commit any wrongdoing. The whole party is in solidarity with her and we urge authorities to immediately stop intimidating people who are only expressing their thoughts,” Sains said in a statement.

In an apparent jibe to the police force, Sains suggest for the cops to direct their energy and effort to escort “VVIP who has been convicted for charges which have been dubbed to be the biggest kleptocratic crime in the world”.

Yesterday, Noor Jehan was called to the Kuantan district police headquarters to record her statement over a Twitter post that allegedly insulted the Pahang regent which was posted on 18 July.

She allegedly claimed that the Pahang regent and several other high-ranking officers were two hours late for the Buffer Zone Ecosystem Restoration Programme which was held in Pantai Chenor, Kemaman, Terengganu on the same date.

Several people saw red to her Twitter post and police reports were subsequently lodged against Noor Jehan for tarnishing the image of the Pahang regent, as well as the tree-planting event organizer, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the Kuantan City Council.

However, Tengku Hassanal apologised to Noor Jehan for being late to the event through Instagram, stating that he was not feeling well on the morning of the event and had to take precautions for everyone’s safety.

After getting her statement recorded yesterday, Noor Jehan said that she was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 as well as Section 500 and 505(b) of the Penal Code.
