A 15-year-old school dropout went through a scare of his life after he was set on fire by six men who accused him of stealing RM100, in an incident that took place in Kampung Perasing Jaya, Jabor Kemaman last Friday.
New Straits Times reported that the victim was believed to have been doused with fuel before being set on fire, causing him to burn on his neck, front and rear of his body.
After the incident, the victim, who was in great pain, returned home and informed his father at about 3am.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan and is reported to be in stable condition.
Meanwhile, all six suspects had been detained and remanded until this Thursday by the police to assist in the investigation.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamaruzaman at the Kemaman Magistrate’s Court on Sunday.
The suspects, aged between 18 and 28, were detained separately in the Kemaman district by the police, said the district police chief, Supt. Hanyan Ramlan.
This includes a 28-year-old main suspect, who was arrested at 6pm yesterday at a house in Perasing Kemaman.
It was also confirmed that the urine test conducted on the suspect found him positive for methamphetamine.
“Police investigation also found that the suspect has four previous records related to drugs,” Hanyan was quoted by the English daily.
The police have classified the case under 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
