The police detained a popular freelance preacher for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl last Monday.
According to Berita Harian, the police nabbed the suspect, who is in his 30s, following a police report lodged by the victim against him last Saturday.
“The victim and the suspect had intimate encounters in several different locations,” Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam was quoted by the Malay daily.
He also said that the suspect and victim had known each other since May last year, adding that four investigations papers have been opened – two in Selangor and one each in Kuala Lumpur and Perak – involving the same suspect.
Sasikala said that suspect was arrested at the Kuala Selangor police headquarters and is under remand until 23 July.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 and Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, said Sasikala.
The two sections carry a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.
