A jobless man stabbed his mother to death yesterday after hearing “whispers” ordering him to do so in Kg Paya Luboh, Tanjung Kling in Melaka, Bernama reported.

According to Melaka police chief Datuk Zainol Samah, the victim, a retired teacher, Rozizah Md Dom, 63, succumbed to her death after the suspect stabbed her in the left and right side of her neck with a paring knife at 3.05pm.

“Preliminary investigation found that the suspect, who is the victim’s eldest son, heard a ‘whisper’ telling him to stab the senior citizen who is said to be worshipping idols,” he was quoted as saying.

Zainol said that the incident occurred in the victim’s room after she just finished taking a shower.

“The suspect was also said to have handed over the knife to his mother before she threw it out through the window,” he added.

The victim’s neighbours learnt about the incident after hearing the screams of one of the victim’s daughters before the incident was reported to the police.

Zainol also said that the suspect had prior psychiatric treatments at Melaka Hospital a few years back and also had two-drug related offences.

He, however, had never undergone any drug rehabilitation treatment, added Zainol.

The case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty.

On Monday, the nation was rocked by another murder case in Johor Baru, where a 24-year-old man slashed his wife and toddler at their family before fleeing the scene, naked.

The man, who was caught the same day by the Johor police, had been sent to Hospital Permai for a mental health check.
