Singapore stopped using the physical white cards when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020.
The Star reported that some Malaysian travellers who didn’t know about the change two years ago were caught by surprise after the borders reopened on 1 April.
They suddenly find themselves scrambling to fill up the online white card at the Johor immigration checkpoints.
Travellers such as 37-year-old Rahimin Lokman were forced to wait up to three hours just to fill the white card.
Not convenient for all
Moving everything online isn’t as accessible to many as most would think. It’s especially difficult for the older crowd who are not well-versed with technology.
Most people report having difficulty getting an internet line to download the application to fill out the form.
Fortunately for Rahimin, the Singapore immigration officer was patient and helped him download and fill out the form.
Another person who struggled to fill out the online form was 38-year-old Wolni Jungin. She had to get help from her teenage nephews to fill the form for her because she wasn’t technologically savvy.
Where to get the online white card?
The white card is known as the SG Arrival Card and it can be downloaded and filled on the MyICA mobile app [Google Play, App Store] or the Singapore Arrival Card e-service website.
Travellers can opt to submit the white cards under Individual Submission or Group Submission.
Those who are entering Singapore by land have to submit an electronic health declaration card online through the same app or website too.
