Despite having announced her willingness to resign from the Cabinet post, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said she will only do so if she was instructed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“If he (prime minister) asks me to relinquish the post, I will resign,” she was quoted as saying in a Bernama report.

She had earlier launched the Global Funding for Rubber Innovation (GFRI) in Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

Zuraida said that she is supposed to meet and discuss her position with the prime minister some time this week.

“I am still on ‘standby’ to meet the prime minister because I have yet to get an appointment. He had said he wanted to see me ‘next week’, which means this week. So, it can be anytime this week, and I am on ‘standby’,” said Zuraida.

She had on 26 May, announced that she is quitting Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

In a statement, Zuraida said that she too would discuss her resignation from the Cabinet post with Ismail upon her return from her working trip in Turkiye on 2 June.

Following her announcement, Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that he will be submitting a new name to the prime minister to replace Zuraida, insisting that the Cabinet post held by the Ampang MP is part of the quota allocated for the party.
