A 27-year-old security guard who had been impersonating a colonel in the Armed Forces’ Gerak Khas unit for the past three years was arrested by the police yesterday following a raid at a house in Rumah Rakyat Sungai Layang, Rembau.

According to Tampin district police chief Supt Anuwal Ab Wahab, the suspect, who is also a wanted person, had been evading the authorities for over three years prior to his arrest.

The police had also seized a fake pistol, a set of Armed Forces uniforms and related accessories, a bag with a police logo and a set of handcuffs from the house, Anuwal said.

The suspect had on 8 December 2018, attempted to enter a Territorial Army camp in Tampin, during which the suspect said that he wanted to meet the deputy commanding officer and personnel from the sergeant major company.

“However, he failed to produce any authority card or any other document to prove that he was a senior officer from the Armed Forces,” Anuwal was quoted as saying by The Star.

Anuwal said that the suspect was taken to the district police station for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail of up to two years or a fine or both.
