Bersatu remains adamant about retaining the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister post, stating that the Cabinet post is part of the quota allocated for the party.

Its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in a statement, said that he will be submitting a new name to the prime minister to replace Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, who yesterday announced that she will be resigning from her Cabinet post after quitting Bersatu to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

Commenting on the matter, Muhyiddin said that Bersatu had anticipated the move and it is aware of Zuraida’s involvement in establishing PBM, which was formerly known as Sarawak Workers Party.

“Following that, a show-cause letter dated May 9 was sent to her, and she had responded in a letter dated May 23.

“Initially, the next step was to refer her case to the party’s disciplinary board. However, since she has announced her intentions of joining PBM through a press statement today, her membership in Bersatu is immediately revoked under Clause 10 of Bersatu’s constitution,” Muhyiddin said.

Zuraida yesterday announced her decision to leave Bersatu and also said that she is ready to relinquish her Cabinet post as soon as he meets Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob upon her return from a working trip in Turkey on 2 June.
