A 20-year old Malaysian pleaded guilty in a Singapore court to molesting his seven-year-old cousin after watching pornography.
The youth admitted that he was addicted to pornography and that he had molested his cousin twice between 16 March and 27 June in 2020.
Quoting Singaporean daily The Staits Time, Free Malaysia Today reported the victim’s mother began suspicious after seeing her daughter sitting on the lap of the accused while watching a video together on a tablet.
“She thought they looked as if they were hiding something from her and confronted the accused,” deputy public prosecutor Sheldon Lim was quoted saying.
The mother lodged a police report when the accused admitted to the indecent behaviour.
He admitted to feeling guilty for molesting his cousin but continued doing so due to his hentai (animated pornography) addiction.
District judge Kessler Soh subsequently called for the accused to be assessed for probation and reformative training before sentencing.
In the republic, a person found guilty of using criminal force on a minor under 14-years-old can be jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or any combination of the three.
