The government will be announcing the relaxation of three key measures in the standard operating procedures (SOP) for Covid-19 prevention this Wednesday, says Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar.

Khairy said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob too had been advised on the matter.

“I have informed the prime minister regarding the Health Ministry’s plans, I will announce them on Wednesday,” Khairy was quoted as saying by Malaysia Now.

The three key measures that are expected to be relaxed are the wearing of face masks, scanning of the MySejahtera application when entering premises and Covid-19 detection tests.

Malaysia has entered the endemic phase since the beginning of April, while simultaneously re-open its borders after two years of closure due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the calls for more SOP to be relaxed, experts split on opinions regarding the suggestion to do away with the obligation to wear face masks with some agreeing while others doubt it will be a good move to do so.
