There is a shortage of grade C chicken eggs in Melaka that was caused by an increase in demand from food traders in the state due to its cheaper price.

Melaka Unity, Information, Human Resources and Consumer Affairs Committee Exco Ngwe Hee Sem said that a single grade C chicken egg only cost 37 sen each, compared to grade B (39 sen) and grade A (41 sen).

“This problem has been detected since December last year.

“It stabilised in January, but in February, the supply decreased due to the Chinese New Year celebration,” Ngwe was quoted by The Edge.

He added that the situation was stabilised in March but arise again in April due to the fasting month.

Ngwe said that there are a lot of grade A and B chicken eggs in the market and urged traders to use these eggs as the price did not differ too much.
