Have you ever felt the urge to call out litterbugs or wrongdoers with a megaphone? Well, the Kuantan City Council (MBK) is doing just that through their Control Center Supervision and Enforcement initiative.

In the video showcasing their efforts, the act of calling out wrongdoers live seems to be effective.

MBK staff monitor several locations in the city from the control center and issue warnings through a loudspeaker.

In one of the scenarios, an MBK staff issued a verbal warning to a man who left his food container in a public area.

This is MBK CCTV control unit. To the person who left his container on the Teluk Cempedak fort, please throw it in the rubbish bin provided immediately. If you fail to do so, action will be taken based on the CCTV footage. Thank you.

The man could be seen quickly packing up the container to be placed in the rubbish bin before a small group of monkeys nearby could get a hold of it.

In another video, the MBK staff managed to deter another person from tagging a wall of a building in public.

If the Kuantan City Council’s efforts work well to deter small offences, perhaps it’s a solution that other city and municipal councils can adopt in their area.

Netizens welcome the council’s move to monitor public areas and added that it might even be able to reduce crime.

Some of them also wondered if the city council would be able to spot potholes and fading road lines and get the Public Works Department (JKR) to fix them.

They hoped that the monitoring effort wouldn’t be a white elephant project.
