The Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS) has assured that there is no shortage of paracetamol stocks in the country.

According to its president Amrahi Buang, the current shortage of the drug, which was commonly used to relieve fever and headaches, only affects one leading brand.

He said that stocks of other brands of paracetamol remain available throughout the nation.

“As a whole, the issue of shortage only involves one leading brand, while other brands don’t face the same problem.

“I was made to understand that the (leading brand) company did not face issues regarding raw materials including paracetamol or excipient but the company exported the paracetamol that it produced to foreign countries and it has to cater to that market,” Amrahi was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

He added that the leading paracetamol brand is looking to address the shortage issue as soon as possible.

It was previously reported that Malaysia is facing a shortage of paracetamol, with demand for the over-the-counter drug increased following the spike in Covid-19 cases.
