The new RM1,500 minimum wage is set to be implemented in the next one or two months, said Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
He said that the Cabinet has discussed the implementation of the new minimum wage for three consecutive weeks.
“The Prime Minister and the entire Cabinet remain committed to its implementation.”
“It may be implemented within the next month or two,” Saravanan told the Dewan Rakyat today.
He was responding to questions from Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PKR-PH).
Saravanan however said that a specific date will only be announced after getting the mandate from the Cabinet.
He also reiterated that certain sectors in the economy will be exempted from the implementation for up to two years.
The country’s minimum wage was last revised in February 2020 to RM1,200.
