Malaysian Business Associations chairman Abdul Malik Abdullah recently drew ire from many Malaysians when he suggested Malaysia implement an anti-job hopping directory or system.
We need to implement this so people will quit job-hopping for an extra RM50 or for some simple reason.
Malaysian Business Associations chairman Abdul Malik Abdullah said after admitting it sounds harsh.
According to The Malaysian Insight, Abdul Malik explained that the system should work similarly to CTOS or CCRIS, which evaluates a person’s credit score and financial health based on their payment history.
We have a lot of issues with foreign workers not being able to come in so we have been using local workers but we feel like the employees do not work for a very long time. They work for a very short period and this impacts business terribly.
Malaysian Business Associations chairman Abdul Malik Abdullah.
He said that the system will help employers to identify which potential employee frequently job hop and be more careful before employing someone.
Deputy secretary-general Dr Sri Ganesh Michiel said job hoppers are the reasons why businesses are slow to recover from the pandemic.
He said employees had lied about their background as some have been involved in criminal activities while some are drug addicts.
Netizens criticised the idea
Malaysians criticised Abdul Malik for failing to realize the real reason why people are forced to job hop.
A netizen said Abdul Malik’s take was too simplistic and cited various reasons to job hop such as being underpaid, toxic work conditions, abusive employers and more.
What an oversimplistic take.

Employees change job for various reasons. For eg underpaid, overworked, toxic & abusive management etc.
Stop blaming employees.
Start your own self-reflection process to determine the real reason of high staff turnover.
Another netizen proposed two systems to complement the ridiculous anti-job hopping system.
They suggested implementing a system to monitor companies that underpay their staff, withhold bonuses and increments so job seekers can make informed decisions.
The system should be tied to banks so the banks can decide how much credit to lend to these abusive companies.
The second system blacklists employers with poor management practices to protect job seekers and employees from poor, abusive work environments.
Not only that, a toxic workplace database is also good. So that jobseekers n prospects will be able to make an informed decision on which companies to avoid when applying for jobs

Another person reminded the public that former employers cannot legally prevent you from leaving and starting a new job in another company even if it’s the competitor.
Even if it was stated in the contract, it’s allegedly not enforceable. Unfortunately, many Malaysians are unaware of this and are duped. Find out and know your rights, peeps.
daily reminder for those who read this article: your former employers cannot legally prevent you from leaving and starting a job in another company. yes, including the competitor.☝️

It’s not allowed, even it’s in the contract, that is void and therefore, not enforceable.

However i understand because many employers just put it there because not many employees will check and probably will follow it blindly https://t.co/6EAkxImDr4
Having the anti-job hopping system might increase the stress of employees too. A netizen cautioned that if a person isn’t allowed to change jobs, they might just jump off a building.
Another person said that employers who cannot afford good working conditions and a living wage for employees should just do all the work on their own and be prevented from hiring workers.
I am afraid if people can’t jump jobs, they might just jump off the building.

I have a better suggestion: those who cannot afford good working conditions and a living wage for employees can do the work their damned selves and be prevented from hiring workers.
