The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not deny the possibility that there may be one or two Malaysians who did not register themselves with the Malaysian embassy in Ukraine.

Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said it’s one of the unofficial intel that they’ve received so far.

According to Utusan, Saifuddin said any Malaysians who are still in Ukraine and need help should contact the Malaysian embassy in Warsaw, Poland.

Right now, the Malaysian embassy in Ukraine is suspended because there are no officers on duty. However, there might be a few Malaysians who did not register with the embassy who are still in the country. We did not make it compulsory for any Malaysians to register. However, we will still try to help them in times of disaster and tragedy.

So far, the seven Malaysians who travelled all the way to Warsaw from Kyiv have reached Malaysia safely.

The Star reported that all of the 24 Malaysians registered with the embassy in Ukraine were safely evacuated.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin added that Malaysia supports the ‘Aggression Against Ukraine’ resolution to condemn Russia for invading Ukraine.

The Malay Mail reported 141 countries including Malaysia supported the resolution with 35 abstentions. Five countries – Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Eritrea – voted against it.

Although Malaysia has good relations with both countries, we still hold the principles of respecting sovereignty, integrity and freedom of a country. In this matter, Malaysia is of the opinion that both countries involved should find a solution through dialogues and peaceful negotiations.
