According to Malay Mail, Section 509 covers the crime of intent to insult the modesty of any person, either verbally or through action. It carries a prison term of up to five years or a fine or both if convicted.

Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani has set 20 to 23 April for submission of documents while Ebit has been released on bail of RM1,000 for each charge (totalling RM11,000) and two sureties.

Based on New Straits Times, the trial date is tentatively set sometime in June.

Ebit was in Sabah to conduct charity works and was only told about the charges against him a few days ago.

He told The Star that he was shocked when he received the news because he was in Sabah for charity work and not to go to court.

I believe someone or a group of people had planned for this, I will get through it and I see this as a test from God.

Ustaz Ebit Lew told The Star.

Despite the charges, he said that it will not stop him from continuing his community work in Sabah.
