Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the students, all aged 13, were detained when they gave their statements at the Kuala Kangsar district police headquarters.

According to Bernama, preliminary investigations found that the incident took place between 1 am to 2 am on 9 December, involving seven teenage suspects and a victim.

In a report by New Straits Times, the school’s principal lodged a police report after the video went viral online.

The case was being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service.

Mior Faridalathrash added that the police have also called the owner of the social media account who made the videos go viral to come in and give their statements to assist in investigations.

Netizens are glad that the authorities have taken action but they also pointed out that it doesn’t solve the core problem in boarding schools.

Some of them shared stories of bullying incidents and how the adults like the wardens turn a blind eye when bullying happens.

Here’s to hoping that schools will have better solutions to discourage bullying from here on out.
