In a bid to help curb the spread of Covid-19, the price of an Antigen Saliva Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Ag) has dropped to RM4.90 without compromising the quality of the test.
According to Berita Harian, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the self-test kit has become a necessity at home.
Together with the Health Ministry (KKM), both ministries agreed to lower the price of the test kits, even more, to make it affordable for everyone to conduct self-tests at home.
Previously, the retail price of a single Covid-19 self-test kit was dropped to RM19.90 from RM39.90.
KPDNHEP has also allowed 7,302 premises across the nation to sell self-test kits approved by KKM and the Medical Device Authority (MDA).
Alexander praised 99 Speedmart for its initiative to start selling the self-test kits at RM4.90 per unit in its stores too.
He added that more premises will soon join suit in lowering the price of the Covid-19 self-test kits.
