Malaysians have been saying that they need younger politicians to replace the ‘old’ ones.

The next candidate to potentially join the ranks of Members of Parliament such as P. Prabakaran and Syed Saddiq is none other than 21-year-old Farzana Hayani.

Hayani, also known as ‘Nana,’ is the youngest candidate chosen by the community to contest in the Sungai Rambai state constituency in the Melaka election.

She’s in a four-cornered fight up against Muhammad Jefri Safry (Perikatan Nasional), Siti Faizah Abdul Azis (Barisan Nasional) and Nazatul Ashraf Md Dom (Putra) on 20 November.

According to Malaysiakini, the Melaka Keadilan Srikandi chief is the youngest woman candidate to be fielded by Pakatan Harapan.

Hayani is also an undergraduate at Shah Alam Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and holds a Diploma in Communication and Media Studies from the same university.

According to UiTM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Roziah Mohd Janor, the university has no objections regarding its students’ participation in politics as election candidates.

Prof Dr Roziah also shared that the UiTM Act 173 allows its students to join politics or become political party candidates.

It’s also in line with the Universities and University Colleges Act (Auku) 1971 which was amended two years ago.

What’s her stance?

According to Sinar Harian, Hayani has said that her young age is not a barrier to help the people and she’s ready to help the community in Melaka.

She has experienced bad internet connection too and has felt the pain as a fellow student.

As the chief of Melaka Srikandi PKR, she intends to improve internet access throughout the state.

She believes having a better internet connection will help facilitate education and encourage the rakyat to venture into online entrepreneurship.

As a student, I give great importance to the internet access, because from my experience as a student at home, it (internet access) is very important for families who have children in school, especially in the Sungai Rambai area.

I am also confident that more people will get involved in the entrepreneurship programme.
