Government Announces Device & Broadband Packages For Teens & Families

The Malaysia Family Teenager Package and the Malaysia Family Device Package will be available starting Oct 15.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa announced two special packages under the Malaysia Family (Keluarga Malaysia) banner today.

They are the broadband centric Malaysia Family Teenager Package, and the Malaysia Family Device Package.

Malaysia Family Teenager Package

This package is for teenagers and students (under 21 years old) including postgraduates. Those under 21-years-old can register using their MyKad while students above 21 years old may use their student card.

Here are the details.

What you pay: RM30 for three months of service.
- It’s technically RM10 per month, but you must pay for three months.
What you get: 90GB of data with conditions.
- 20GB of data per month for three months.
  - Unconditional.
  - For downloading videos, or playing online games.
- 1GB of data per day (additional)
  - For “productivity”.
  - Sending and receiving messages.
  - Browsing the internet.
- No data constraints for remote studying or working from home (though it is unclear how they will differentiate).

Malaysia Family Device Package

An affordable cellular internet package is useless without a device. This package is meant to remedy that.

Here are the details.

What you pay: RM60 for 12 to 24 months.
- That’s a total of RM720 or RM1,440 respectively.
- It depends on the device and packages you choose.
What you get: A 4G capable smartphone and an internet package.
- Includes the 1GB daily data for “productivity”.
Each registered MyKad holder may only subscribe to a maximum of 2 packages.
