This Father’s Day, skip the crowds and settle in for a cosy day of streaming. From heartwarming family dramas to laugh-out-loud comedies, these movies and shows pay tribute to the dads and father figures who shape our lives in meaningful ways.

Dads (2026) | Apple TV

Directed by Bryce Dallas Howward, Dads is Apple TV’s humorous and heartfelt documentary  that celebrates the joys and challenges of parenting today. The film features six extraordinary fathers across the globe and offers a firsthand glimpse into the trials and tribulations of modern-day parenting through interviews, home footages, viral videos, and more.

There are also hilarious and thoughtful testimonials from some of Hollywood’s funniest celebrities, including Judd Apatow, Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris, Ron Howard, Ken Jeong, Jimmy Kimmel, Hasan Minhaj, Conan O’Brien, Patton Oswalt, Will Smith and more.

Howard also offers an intimate look into the dads in her family, including remarkable interview with her late grandfather Rance, her father Ron, and her brother Reed.

The Family Plan 1 & 2 (2025) | Apple TV

In The Family Plan, Mark Wahlberg plays Dan Morgan, a suburban car salesman and dad who was once an elite government assassin. When his past catches up to him, he packs his unsuspecting wife and three kids into a minivan and embarks on a chaotic cross-country road trip to Las Vegas.

In The Family Plan 2, the family’s holiday around Europe quickly turns dangerous when Dan is framed for a bank heist by a vengeful family member. The Morgans must now go on the run across London and Paris to clear their names.

Ted Lasso (2020) | Apple TV

For dads looking for a series, Ted Lasso is a highly acclaimed comedy-drama series about an optimistic American college football coach who is unexpectedly hired to manage a struggling British soccer team. Despite knowing nothing of the sport, his relentless empathy and focus on mental health gradually wins and transforms the team and naysayers.

Logan (2017) | Disney Plus

Logan isn’t your typical Father’s Day film, but sometimes the most powerful father figures are the ones who never saw it coming. This Marvel film centers on an older Wolverine, following the Old Man Logan comics storyline by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. Hugh Jackman reprises the role of Logan/Wolverine, and reluctantly steps up to defend a young mutant who is very similar to him in power and strength.

Gifted (2017) | Disney Plus

Gifted tells the story of Mary, a remarkably gifted child pulled between two worlds: her uncle Frank’s vision of a normal childhood and her grandmother’s ambitions for something far greater. Chris Evans brings warmth and quiet conviction to Frank Adler, a man who loves his niece and tries to protect her childhood. This film will hit close to home for parents and guardians who have wrestled with the weight of choosing what’s truly best for a child.

Taken trilogy (2008, 2012, 2015) | Disney Plus

Taken stars Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills, a former Green Beret and retired CIA officer, who had to rescue his teen daughter, Kim, and her friend from a sex trafficking ring. The journey takes him to Paris, where he uncovers the depths of black market.

In the sequel Taken 2, Bryan and his ex-wife were kidnapped while on holiday in Istanbul and it’s up to Kim to give the villains a run of their money.

The third installment Taken 3 sees Bryan getting framed for the murder of his ex-wife and goes on a run. He soon discovers that the betrayal runs deeper than he realised.

San Andreas (2015) | Netflix

San Andreas stars Dwayne Johnson as Ray Gaines, a chief rescue helicopter pilot, attempting to rescue his family when the city is hit by a mega earthquake. The movie is perfect for those who are looking for an action packed story set in an apocalypse.

Daddy Day Care (2003) | Netflix

Daddy Day Care celebrates the chaotic, hilarious world of fatherhood, capturing the everyday realities of childcare with an exaggerated twist. The film will resonate deeply with dads who thought they were ready and discovered no one really is, and realise that having a community greatly helps.

The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) | Netflix

The Pursuit of Happyness has been a staple Father’s Day movie for years largely because it’s based on a true story. Will Smith plays Chris Gardner, a struggling and homeless single father who’s fighting to secure a highly competitive, unpaid stockbroker internship to provide for his son. The film’s themes are deeply moving, and will resonate most powerfully with dads who have experienced a similar journey of their own.

Papa Zola: The Movie (2025) | Astro First VOD

Papa Zola: The Movie tells the story of Papa Zola, a former secret agent who now works as a food delivery person and picks up part-time jobs to support his family. When his daughter, Pipi Zola, was kidnapped by aliens, Papa Zola and his wife, Mama Zila, return to their old lives and reunite with friends to save their daughter and the world. Papa Zola’s story highlights the universal struggles of working-class fatherhood and the quiet sacrifices dads make.

Papa Zola: The Movie is available as video-on-demand on Astro First. For Father’s Day, the film returns to selected cinemas nationwide from 11 to 30 June 2026.

The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021) | Netflix

For those who grew up watching the Wild Thornberrys, The Mitchells vs The Machines provides a similar form of family adventure. In this film, a dysfunctional family find themselves on a sci-fi adventure when a rogue AI assistant triggers a global robot uprising and captures humanity.

Onward (2020) | Disney Plus

The film Onward touches on the theme of love and loss. Elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot have lost their father, Wilden, years before. After receiving a magical staff on his birthday, Ian casts a spell to bring his father back but only managed to bring back Wilden’s lower half of the body. Now both brothers embark on a quest to acquire another gem to finish the spell before the spell wears off.

Despicable Me (2010) | Netflix

Supervillain Gru only has one plan in mind: To best his rival Vector who succeeded in stealing the Great Pyramid of Giza. He sets his eyes on stealing the moon and adopts three orphan girls to help infiltrate Vector’s heavily guarded fortress. What he didn’t know was that the girls will soon steal his heart. The Despicable Me franchise resonate with people of all ages due to its themes of found family, and of course, the adorable yellow Minions. There are four Despicable Me movies in the franchise, including prequels, short films, TV series and more.

Finding Nemo (2003) | Disney Plus

Finding Nemo is almost like a kids’ version of Taken. When Nemo the disabled clownfish was captured by fishermen, Marlin faces his fears and ventures into the great beyond to save his one and only son. Be sure to watch the prequel, Finding Dory (2016) too!

A Goofy Movie (1995) | Disney Plus

A Goofy Movie offers a rare look at the anxieties of single parenthood with some comedic moments. In this cult classic film, Goofy, a single father to Max, tries to correct his teenage son’s delinquent ways. He comes up with a cross-country fishing trip, hoping it’ll help him bond with his son more. Max tries to sabotage the trip, but the experience soon develops into a meaningful father-and-son moment. The film ends with an electrifying concert with Powerline, which will get the whole family dancing.
