Who knew plastic toy bricks could be the perfect way to celebrate Lunar New Year?
From 24 January through late February, LEGO is rolling out festivities across Malaysia that honour the Year of the Horse while staying firmly rooted in fun.
At the heart of the celebration are two new sets: the Spring Festival Galloping Horse Canvas, featuring a hand-crank mechanism that brings painted horses to life, and the Fortune Firecracker, recreating the satisfying crackle of fireworks with hidden bricks that rattle when shaken.
“We’ve always believed in the power of play to bring people together,” says Ágnes Molnár, the company’s Marketing Director for the region.
It’s the kind of thing companies always say, but it actually makes sense when you watch families building together over instruction manuals.
Brick-Built Blessings at Sunway Pyramid
The main event unfolds at Sunway Pyramid from 5 to 22 February, where shoppers can wander through a LEGO-fied Chinese garden.
Four activity stations invite visitors to build koi fish, match tiles against the clock, and contribute to a communal wishing tree.
Kids under twelve walk away with an exclusive Make and Take Horse set; adults get vouchers, because capitalism never sleeps.
The LEGO God of Fortune mascot—imagine a blocky deity dispensing red packets—will make appearances across selected stores.
There’s something funny about turning an ancient god into a bright plastic mascot, but somehow it works.

From Lucky Cats to Plum Blossoms
This marks the eighth year LEGO has released Chinese Traditional Festival sets, a commitment that speaks to more than just market strategy.
The lineup includes everything from a Lucky Cat to an Orchid set designed for meditative adult building.
Even the promotional grocery bags shaped like pineapples and cats have become collectables.
Jason Chin of Sunway Malls calls it “a contemporary interpretation of tradition,” which is another way of saying they’re making old customs feel new again.
But there’s genuine thoughtfulness in how these sets balance respect with playfulness.

Tradition You Can Hold in Your Hands
What LEGO understands—and what makes these celebrations more than mere marketing—is that tradition doesn’t have to stay frozen in time.
A festival can honour the past while embracing the tactile joy of snapping bricks together.
The sets range from RM139.90 to RM449.90, accessible enough for casual builders, detailed enough for collectors.
It’s tradition meeting innovation, one brick at a time.
And in a world that often feels too digital, too fast, there’s something reassuring about celebrations you can literally build with your hands.
