A viral TikTok video triggered a debate of the sexes again after it showed a young girl in crutches not being offered a seat inside the MRT.

In the video, a young girl with crutches under both arms stood beside the door. When the camera panned, it showed all seats in the women’s carriage were taken and no one allegedly offered the seat to the young girl.

In the comments, some said the girl should have gone to the general carriage and men would have quickly offered her a seat. They argued that men were more gentlemanly than women.

Meanwhile, others said the girl should have asked in case other passengers were not paying attention to their surroundings.

Another user shared that the video may not tell the whole story. This was because a similar situation happened to them; when they offered their seat to someone else, the person said they didn’t want pity. This similar turn of events happened to others before as well.

Things get a little murkier when one considers how some elderly or disabled people refuse help because their stop is coming up or simply to feel independent.
