From comic exhibitions to weekend markets and exhilarating shows, there’s something for everyone this weekend in the Klang Valley.

Ongoing Events

1. Edelweiss Weekend Unwind 2023 (Weekend Party) @ Rooftop Garden, Lalaport KL (Every Weekend from 4 – 28 May, 3 pm – 10 pm)

Come on down and experience life the Edelweiss way with art, music, games and so much more happening on a stunning rooftop garden from 3.00 pm onwards for two weekends (Thursdays to Sundays) from 4th – 28th May at Lalaport KL, and Penang’s Hin Bus Depot from 2nd – 4th June.  

The weekend offers programs packed with pop-up markets, workshops, music and experiential events headlined by homegrown scene-shakers. Plus, the entrance is free.

Edelweiss Weekend Unwind will be collaborating with Pingmin Market (平民市集) in Lalaport and Hin Market at Hin Bus Depot, offering a unique opportunity to explore local culture and artisans.

2. Of Spaces Between (Art Gallery) @ Zhan Art Space, PJ (15 April – 15 May, 10 am – 5 pm)

This April 2023, art fans across Klang Valley will be given the opportunity to experience the concept of duality when they visit Of Spaces in Between, an exhibition hosted simultaneously at two gallery spaces – Hin Bus Depot, Penang, and at ZHAN Art | Space, Petaling Jaya.

Curated by Penang-based artist Ivan Gabriel, the exhibition will feature 24 artists, each of whom has created two different but complementary artworks based on the theme ‘duality’, to be displayed in the two spaces respectively.

3. Euro Fun Park (Fun Fair) @ Dataran Open Carpark, 1 Utama (31 March – 28 May, 7 pm – 12 am)

Experience the thrill of Malaysia’s largest travelling amusement park – the much-anticipated Euro Fun Park at 1 Utama! From 31 March to 28 May 2023, this travelling fun fair will keep you entertained all night long from 7 pm to 12 am daily with endless rides and games. So, mark your calendars as this is an event you definitely don’t want to miss!

4. The World Of Tim Burton (Exhibition) @ Pavilion Bukit Jalil (21 March – 30 July, 10 am – 10 pm)

For the first time in Southeast Asia and the last stop in Asia – The long-awaited ‘The World of Tim Burton’ Pop-Up Museum is finally here at Pavilion Bukit Jalil! 

Featuring numerous talented works from Tim Burton’s early stages of sketches and drawings to the talented artist’s most recent projects of puppets and life-sized sculptures used in his film work, you’ll be sure to step into an incredible experience like no other!

Tickets are priced at RM88 per pax but they have discounts for kids, seniors, students and OKUs. For more details, visit here.

5. One Piece Asia Tour Exhibition @ Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, Resorts World Genting (23 March – 8 May, 10 am – 10 pm)

For 47 days, the biggest, largest and first-ever One Piece Exhibition in Southeast Asia is happening here in Malaysia.

Fans will get to enjoy an incredible 45 to 90-minute tour around the 21 Iconic Zones which will showcase the series’ iconic scenes from Luffy’s adventures from the series in a 25,000 square feet layout. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

6. Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba Total Concentration Exhibition @ Pavilion Bukit Jalil (18 Feb – 18 May, 10 am – 10 pm)

Demon Slayer is a well-known Anime and has a massive fan following in Malaysia. This exhibition is a definite treat to fans as it brings you into the world of anime as soon as you enter the exhibition.

Step into an experience like no other, immerse yourself in some of the memorable scenes and become part of a Demon Slayer Corps at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, Level 2, Pink Zone.

7. The World Of Nickelodeon Malaysia (Kids Cartoon Carnival) @ Pavilion Bukit Jalil (28 April – 23 July, 10 am – 10 pm)

Are your kids a fan of Nickelodeon’s cartoons? This carnival is the perfect place for families to bring their kids and have a fun time together with 17 interesting stations and tonnes of photo opportunities set up over 14,000 square feet.

You’ll even spot characters from shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dora the Explorer, and Bubble Guppies so bring your kids for a fun day at the carnival!

5 May (Friday)

1. Malaysia’s Largest Automotive Exhibition @ Maeps, Serdang (4 – 7 May, 10 am – 10 pm)

The Malaysia Autoshow is back and will feature hundreds of the latest cars, EVs, motorbikes and technology showcases. Test drive or ride your dream car and motorbike, visit car auto shows, witness stunt shows, sign up for low-interest loans from banks and more!

This event is not just for automotive lovers as there will be over 80 food vendors and trucks as well as a concert! There will also be a K-Pop Dance Competition tonight.

2. Haze: Coming Soon (Activist Art Exhibition) @ RexKL (5 – 14 May, 11 am – 8 pm)

As temperatures rise nationwide, haze pollution is sure to follow. Since 2021, Greenpeace Malaysia has been spearheading their campaign for clean air, intensifying efforts to combat haze pollution caused by Malaysian-owned companies involved in open burning. 

This year, Greenpeace Malaysia is teaming up with Studio Birthplace and Splash & Burn to mobilize the public through an art activist exhibition titled “Haze: Coming Soon.” The exhibition takes place from May 5th to 14th at RexKL and brings together artists, filmmakers, and activists to raise awareness and spark conversations on the urgency of haze pollution and the need for action.

3. Back To The 80s (Weekend Market) @ Central Market (4 – 7 May, 10 am – 8 pm)

Central Market is taking you back to the 80s, back when the coolest things were in store! Come on now and experience the best of what ‘Back To 80s Fever” has to offer this long weekend.

From nostalgic snacks like the durian-flavoured chips and those 8-shaped candies to vintage fashion items such as checkered shirts and chunky jewellery, you’ll take a walk down memory lane here at Pasar Seni this weekend.

4. Kuala Lumpur Illustration Fair 2023 (Illustrator’s Fair) @ GMBB (5 -7 May, 11 am – 8 pm)

The first-ever KL Illustration Fair is happening this weekend from 5 to 7 May. This is the first time the local illustrator community is putting together an event to recognise, enable, and promote their community, craft, and works!

This ticketed showcase will feature over 50 illustrators and includes conferences put together by top-tier talents in Malaysia and all across South East Asia.

5. Wavy Market – Lokal Wave x Tiffin At The Yard (Weekend Market) @ Tiffin At The Yard, Sentul Depot (5 – 7 May, 12 pm – 11 pm)

Lokal Wave is a movement of clothing, art, music & food in Malaysia. This time around, they’re collaborating with Tiffin At The Yard, a venue in Sentul Depot that sells magnificent food and organises various events to bring you Lokal Wave, an exciting weekend market.

6. Pet Expo Malaysia @ Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, MVEC (5 -7 May, 10 am – 9 pm)

Calling all pet lovers and paw-rents! Bring along your furkids, family & friends to Mid Valley this weekend for the largest pet event in Malaysia!

6 & 7 May (Saturday & Sunday)

1. ACG Re- Festiverse (Anime, Comic & Game Festival) @ Cheras Sentral Mall (6 – 7 May, 11 am – 8 pm)

ACG Festiverse is a community of like-minded individuals who share a love of anime, comics, and games. From cosplay competitions to live music and more, their stages will be the epicentre of all the action.

Some of the events to look out for are the Duo Skit Cosplay Competiton, Big Eater Challenge, Anisong Competition, and more!

2. Soundvalley Festival 2023 (Concert) @ Maeps, Serdang (6 May, 5 pm – 11 pm)

The Malaysia Autoshow 2023 is hosting the Soundvalley Festival this year and in conjunction with Hari Raya, it’s free! Some of the line ups include Aina Abdul, XPDC, KGB band, and many more.

Since Malaysia lost the legendary Mael from XPDC just last week, this Saturday, his band members are going to do a tribute show just for him called Tribute to Legend. Don’t miss out on their free concert at Maeps, Serdang.

Retro Rahman 3.0 – The Beginning (ARRahman Tribute Concert) @ Zepp KL (^ May, 8 pm)

The Retro Rahman 3.0 concert will feature a compilation of AR Rahman’s retro hits from the 1990s to 2000s, which is known as his Golden Era, producing many super hits. 

The performance promises to be a nostalgic walk down memory lane for fans of Rahman’s music, and the song list will be entirely in Tamil. Conducting the show in a smaller venue like Zepp KL, Mojo Projects aims to provide an intimate concert to enhance the experience of the show-goers.

4. Disney In Concert: Live Your Dream (6 & 7 May @ Plenary Hall, KLCC)

Disney In Concert: Live Your Dream is a musical celebration of dreamers and wishers. Derived from some of the most iconic scores, this concert explores classic storytelling, characters and themes from Disney’s animated feature films, melodies, and film sequences. This musical event will see the pairing of four talented vocalists and a symphonic pop orchestra.

5. Raya Sepanjang Zaman (Raya Orchestra) @ Dewan Philharmonic Petronas (6 May, 8.30 pm)

Celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with the MPO in a concert-themed ‘Raya Sepanjang Zaman’. The MPO will present evergreen songs, all given fresh orchestral interpretations. Enjoy popular songs that have earned special places in our hearts such as ‘Seloka Hari Raya’, ‘Bersabarlah Sayang’ and ‘Indah Di Hari Raya’, among others.

The concert will witness the MPO’s collaboration with veteran singers Sanisah Huri and Datuk Hail Amir, and powerhouse vocalists Ziana Zain and Bob Yusof.

6. Just Jokes: Saturday Night Laughs (Comedy Show) @ The Ark Event Space, Sri Hartamas (6 May, 8 pm)

This Saturday, sit back and relax with a night filled with stand-up comedy, new jokes, new laughs and loads and loads of fun. This live stand-up comedy show will feature new talents, future stars and some of the real OGs.

Plus, if you’re hungry, there’s delicious food and drinks available at the show too.

7. Feeling Feelings Makes Me, Me (Solo Art Exhibition) @ Temu House (6 – 28 May)

‘Feeling Feelings Makes Me, Me’ by Nadirah Zakariya is a well-worn open diary; a heart on a fluffy pink gingham sleeve, and an adorned love letter to anyone who can relate.

Featuring close to 40 artworks/pieces that range from framed photography prints, lightboxes and a video piece, ‘Feeling Feelings Makes Me, Me’ (FFMMM) will mark Nadirah’s biggest show to date, albeit it being her third solo showing. Officially scheduled for public viewing on 6th May 2023 (Saturday), the exhibition will run until 28th May 2023 (Sunday).

8. Weekend Riang Pop-Up Market @ The Weekend Workshop, Seapark, PJ (6 – 7 May, 10 am – 5 pm)

Art lovers rejoice!

The Weekend Workshop was established in 2018 as a creative art, baking, craft, design and events workshop studio. Every now and then, they’ll be having weekend pop-up markets offering cheap workshops, showcasing local talents’ artworks and selling creative knick-knacks and products.

9. Sunny Side Up Market @ Slate, The Row, KL (6 & 7 May, 11 am – 6 pm)

Sunny Side Up Market is hosting a market for Mother’s Day in May!
